Council of Ethnic Organizations (CEO) is a multicultural alliance of students with the mission to showcase diversity at the University of Houston by gathering different groups and individuals to work together and create extravagant events so the University of Houston students can get a true cultural experience. Enlightenment through Education is a key principle of CEO. By educating the student population on the various ethnic groups represented at the University of Houston, students are able to appreciate diversity.
CEO has continued to make sure that student groups at the University of Houston have access to the many resources that CEO has to offer to promote quality programs devoted to displaying ethnic diversity and multiculturalism. CEO has strived to promote unity and multiculturalism by hosting events such as Diversity Week, Asian Appreciation events, Culture Enrichment events and plays, Women appreciation events, Homecoming involvement, Frontier Fiesta involvement, African American Appreciation events and various co-sponsorship with registered student organizations to assist in the planning and implementation of diverse programming and encourage student groups to display their individuality. Participation in CEO is open to the entire student body. Students are encouraged to apply for funding and assistance for programs that are synonymous with the missions and goals of CEO.
CEO is not only an opportunity to learn about diversity and other ethnic groups. Being involved with CEO and its many volunteer positions has made it possible to acquire leadership skills and learn how to work with people of different ethnic backgrounds and beliefs. The tasks of programming teach time management and organizational skills that attribute to well rounded students. CEO meets bi-weekly to insure that everyone in the organization is fulfilling responsibilities and that all programs are structured and organized. Although CEO gives members and member groups complete control over projects and programming, we make sure that the needs of students are met by remaining accessible to students and offering assistance in any way possible.
CEO works diligently to host large scale events to promote interaction and involvement with students. In order for student groups to be able to program with CEO and also for the organization to continue to promote the multicultural, diverse aspects of the University of Houston, student funds are a necessity. CEO is a way to connect all nationalities and cultures at the University of Houston; we ask that you assist in continuing to “Unite Cougars Through Diversity.”
